Nigeria’s Chief of ArmyStaff, Lt. General Tukur Buratia have commended African Leadership Magazine for its unique role of reporting successes rather than failures of institutions in Africa. The Army chief made this known when he received the Managing Editor, Mr. Kingsley Okeke, alongside the group’s head of Special Projects, Mr. Chrys Anyawu, at the Defense Headquarters, in Abuja, Nigeria.  The members of the African Leadership team were on a courtesy visit to the Army chief recently to commend him and his team for the gains recorded by the army under his leadership.

The Army Chief who was recently honoured by the African Leadership Group, alongside the immediate past president of Ghana, His Excellency, John Mahama,  in Johannesburg South Africa, maintained that while the international media have continued to report the trite headline of hunger, war, disease, and famine, African Leadership Magazine have remained resolute in its onerous task of correcting these negative headlines, with its reportage.

In his words, “the Army, Nigeria and the continent are quite thankful to African Leadership Magazine for this important role of documenting the continent’s progress for the world to see and note.” He added that ” we must work together to uplift our continent, nobody will do it better than Africans themselves. So, we must look inward, because, Africa has great potentials for greatness, which only requires the right leadership to harness these potentials.”

Lt. Gen. Buratai, who spoke extensively about the Army’s successes and challenges in the fight against insurgency in Nigeria and West Africa,  also reaffirmed the  Buhari-led administration’s efforts towards ensuring that Nigeria takes the lead in providing quality leadership for the continent on major issues. He further stated that “Nigeria’s role in quelling the crisis in Guinea Bissau and our involvement in the Lake Chad Basin Commission, is also showing our leadership and I am sure that very soon we would reclaim our place, just like in the past.”

The Managing Editor, Mr. Kingsley Okeke, in his remark, thanked the Army chief for receiving the team and pledged the group’s support for the Nigerian Army in their quest to rid the country of insurgents. Continuing, Mr. Okeke stated that, “the progress made thus far by the Nigerian Army in the fight against insurgency is worthy of commendation and we would continue to partner with you towards promoting your progress.”

The Army Chief also opened up to African Leadership Magazine in a no-holds-barred interview which is the focus of the  June Edition of the Magazine. In the June edition, he spoke on why the Nigerian Army has made so much progress in the last two years; Amnesty International among other interesting topics.
